I don't believe in astrology; I'm a Sagittarius and we're skeptical. - Arthur C. Clarke

Astrology is the study of the influence that distant cosmic objects have on human lives. The positions of the sun, stars, moon, and planets at the time of people’s birth is said to shape their personality, affect their relationships, and predict their economic fortunes. A person’s sign is determined by which zodiacal constellation the sun was in when they were born. Each sign refers to one of the twelve constellations of the zodiac. This is a form of sun-sign astrology, which is the astrology upon which horoscopes are based. Other types of astrology include mundane (predictions about world affairs), interrogatory (specific predictions about a person's objectives or life events), and natal (predictions based on the Law of Beginnings).

Horoscopes were originally created by some of the earliest human beings. They believed the constantly shifting shapes and patterns in the star-filled sky must somehow be of importance. They used these stars to explain the seemingly arbitrary events of life such as changing seasons, wars, economic hardships, and the weather. Daily horoscopes are based off analyzing star charts and comparing where the planets are now with where they were when you were born. Of course, different astrologers have different perspectives and interpretations of their data. This is what causes horoscopes to vary in different newspapers and magazines.

The validity of horoscopes causes debate between believers and non-believers. In a study done by John H. McGrew and Richard M. McFall of Indiana University, the two scientists concluded that horoscopes are not true. Although horoscopes are not scientifically proven to be true, many people disregard this and choose to believe that they are. A famous case of this is when one of the most powerful men in history had his schedule controlled by the stars. President Ronald Reagan used an astrologer, Joan Quigley, to determine which days were best to give speeches and meet with foreign officials.
