As you can tell, there are many different opinions about what differentiates children from adults. From our research, we can conclude that it is a combination of both mindset and age. Of course there are older people that act like children and children that act like adults. However, even though someone that is 50 may act like a child, they would still be considered an adult. Usually, a person is considered an adult at the age of 18 because that is when he/she is legally responsible for himself/herself. However, there is not a particular age when your mindset shifts from that of a child to that of an adult. Most people contain characteristics of both adults and children. Common traits that are said to be childlike are curiosity, imaginative, observant, optimistic, and innocent. Common traits that are said to be more adult-like include being too literal, driven, and narrow-minded. People account for these changes by saying that as children grow up, they get more realistic. As one can tell, it is clear that adulthood is determined by age and mindset.
